Vinland Music Camp

Scholarships & Volunteering

Soundbone scholarships are designed to make the Vinland Music Camp affordable for those who otherwise could not attend. We do not have a large fund but within these limits, our goal is to assist as many applicants as we can and to meet applicants’ needs as much as possible. This program is specifically for the Vinland Music Camp. Funds for this program come from private donations and fundraising.

Types of support

There are two types of financial assistance:

1. Grants. Upon applying the total registration fee may be reduced by up to 50%. These scholarships are open to all ages.

2. Work scholarships. In exchange for your assistance, fees may be reduced or waived. These jobs include serving as a camp nurse, camp counselor, and teaching assistant. These openings depend on our needs and are open to adults only. Contact the Director (Eric West) for further information.

Criteria for awards

Financial aid will be awarded based primarily on need.  Students from age 12-21 will be given first priority for scholarships, but all ages (8 years and up) may apply. Past or planned participation in folk music and dance events is an asset but isn’t essential.

Applying

If you wish to apply for a scholarship or volunteer position, you can do so by sending us a letter (by post or email) stating your age, education, and musical interest. Describe why you would like to attend Camp. Include at least one reference (e.g. school teacher, music teacher, etc). Applicants under the age of 19 years must have signed approval from a parent or guardian.

Applications for scholarships should be submitted by May 30 and will be notified by June 15. Applications for volunteer positions can be made throughout the year.
