Soundbone Traditional Arts Gathering

(Formerly VINLAND MUSIC CAMP)

August 16-21, 2026

Lion Max Simms Camp, near Bishops Falls, NL

The Soundbone Traditional Arts Gathering (formerly Vinland Music Camp) 2026 will take place at Lion Max Simms Memorial Camp in Bishops Falls, August 16-21, 2026.

We are so excited about our new name The Soundbone Traditional Arts Gathering, but don’t worry, the same excellent performances and quality instruction of the past 25 years remain the same for our dedicated Vinland campers!

The Gathering is Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier summer retreat for traditional arts with three professional concerts and four days of workshops led by some of our province’s top artists. This is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to immerse themselves in the culture of our province through music, song, dance, and storytelling. You can learn some new tunes, become a composer and write your own songs, keep it close to the floor with stepdancing and set dancing and when you want to slow down you can learn/share stories to amaze yourself and your friends - all while relaxing along the beautiful Exploits River. The Gathering is sure to be fun and create memories for years to come.

The Gathering has something for everyone - instrumentalists, singers, dancers, and storytellers!

If you are a non-instrumentalist check out our NL Songs, Soundbone Gathering Choir, Songwriting, Stepdancing, Set Dancing, Introduction to Dance Calling, and Storytelling workshops. You can also try out a beginner class in any of our main instrumental categories.

For those who do play, the principal instruments of instruction at the Gathering 2026 will be button accordion, bodhran, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo, tin whistle, ukulele and wooden flute – although you are welcome to bring other acoustic instruments. There are different levels of instruction from beginner to advanced. Besides developing your performance skills, you will learn the history of the music and various approaches to interpreting it. Don’t forget to also check our singing, dancing, and storytelling!

Both of the popular Soundbone Gathering Choir and Soundbone Folk Orchestra are again being offered this year.
